I came to Bergen on a cruise and found the whole place good for wheelchair users. I decided to go up Mount Floyen on the Floibanen funicular which is fully wheelchair accessible. You buy your tickets via automated ticket machines at the base station and then pass through an accessible glass gate with automatic ticket readers, someone was manning the gates and scanned my ticket for me. There’s a disabled toilet in the base station.
A lift takes you up to the accessible part of the platform which lines up with the wheelchair accessible part of the carriage, they directed me to this. The carriage lines up perfectly with the platform, a flat piece of metal is put down over the gap between carriage and the platform. The journey takes 5-7 minutes.
Once at the top a lift then takes you from the platform to the restaurant, cafe and shop which are all accessible and there are disabled toilets. You get a lovely viewpoint looking over the whole of Bergen, steps go down to the front but you can still see as well from above the steps. You can also go for walks up here and the paths are wide and hard in surface but a little steep in places so more doable in an electric wheelchair than a manual. One path does take you to a lovely lake though.
It’s a lovely peaceful place to visit that has good accessibility with few people about apart from around the top station. When I came to come back down we went into the queue with everyone else, a member of staff said people in wheelchairs don’t have to queue and took us to the front so we could get back into the lift to go onto the platform. The staff were extremely helpful.
