If every ground has made as many improvements, then the 2017-18 season is going to be much better for disabled fans.

I was in the area set aside for disabled fans of both home and away teams.

The concourse area set aside for disabled supporters was really good. There were four accessible toilets, each marked as stoma friendly, and each door indicating whether the toilet was positioned for a left or right sided transfer for a wheelchair users. Absolutely ideal. There was a Changing Places facility too.

Impressively there was an area set aside with sensory equipment.

The view of the game was from a slightly elevated position.

Thanks to West Brom, and particularly the stewards for an extremely welcoming approach.

Good trip up on the accessible transport so no worries about parking. My third time seeing afcb at this ground. The first time (mid 80’s) I was actually half-way up the away terrace because the entrance outside was similar to Palace. This time we were situated pitch level, in the front row of the away fans and thankfully the rain held off (although it was blooming cold)!

As with Burnley there was no wheelchair access to the concourse.

The accessible loo in the ground was back in the opposite corner which meant schlepping back behind the goal at half-time. Again, not really ideal.

The Fanzone prior to the game was accessible.

We parked in the car park of WBA’s Training Academy, situated in Halfords Lane. We arranged parking beforehand and obtained the contact details from Level Playing Fields. Learnt at the ground that some people had been told by the club that there was no parking but we had no problem in arranging this,

WBA’s Training Academy is situated about 75-100 yards away from the ground. According to the information provided by the club, the road was closed 1 ¾ hours before match and opened up 1 hour after final whistle. It appeared however that the road was opened up, say, half an hour after the end of the match.

There was an area for entertainment for both sets of fans, music and a television screen. All you had to do was show your ticket. Fantastic burgers out side of the ground. Only £3, each which was a bargain.

We were situated in front of our own supporters in the Smethick stand by the right corner flag. The pitch appeared to be high from our seating position. The view was okay, but not the best I have had.

You could have a party in the 2 accessible toilets. A radar key opened the toilet. If you did not possess one of these, I was told that a steward would assist. The toilets were used by both sets of supporters at half time and there was a queue but it did not really present a problem.

Friendly and helpful stewards, 5 star rating, and a great day out, especially because of the result.
